Gahan attended a rock climbing workshop conducted by the Bangalore Climbing Initiative (BCI). The workshop started early in the morning at 7 AM and continued until 5 PM, giving participants a full day of learning and practice.
During the workshop, Gahan was introduced to top-rope climbing, a technique where the rope is anchored at the top of the rock and managed by a belayer on the ground for safety. Parents and experienced climbers helped with belaying, ensuring that climbers were safely supported while climbing.
He also learned important rock climbing fundamentals, including:
-
Tying the figure-of-eight knot
-
Climbing communication commands between climber and belayer
-
The 5-point buddy safety check before starting a climb
Gahan was very enthusiastic and attempted around 12 climbs on different routes. The experienced climbers who were practicing there were very encouraging, and Gahan enjoyed interacting with them. He even made friends with several adult climbers who appreciated his effort and enthusiasm.
The climbers encouraged him to come back again for future climbing sessions, which made the experience even more special for him.
The workshop was a wonderful learning opportunity where Gahan gained confidence, learned about safety, teamwork, and perseverance, and experienced the excitement of outdoor rock climbing.
It was a memorable day filled with adventure, learning, and fun.
